Report: Addiction to ‘Fortnite’ Is Becoming a Major Cause of Divorces

The wildly popular video game Fortnite is evidently a major problem in some marriages.

According to a new report that looked at divorces in the U.K., more than 200 couples in 2018 cited video game addiction—specifically calling out Fortnite as a leading culprit—as a cause for their marriage problems.

A spokesperson for the site Divorce Online said in the report, “These numbers equate to roughly 5 percent of the 4,665 petitions we have handled since the beginning of the year and as one of the largest filers of divorce petitions in the UK, is a pretty good indicator.”

They even compared the video game addiction epidemic to problems with drugs, saying, “addiction to drugs, alcohol and gambling have often been cited as reasons for relationship breakdowns but the dawn of the digital revolution has introduced new addictions.”
