Hawaii Braces for Category 4 Hurricane

Hawaii residents are currently scrambling to prepare for Hurricane Lane, which recently strengthened to a category 5 and then weakened down to a strong 4.

The hurricane is still a few hundred miles away from Honolulu, but the National Weather Service has issued a hurricane warning for the main island and hurricane watches for smaller surrounding islands.

As always, the path of a hurricane is unpredictable, which is why experts are cautioning everyone to be prepared, whether it moves north or south. Many of the islands will still face heavy rain and winds.

“It is much too early to confidently determine which, if any, of the main Hawaiian islands will be directly impacted by Lane,” the weather service said.

Residents are expected to begin feeling effects Wednesday night. Experts believe it should be over by Sunday morning.
