If you’re finding yourself in need of a little inspiration today, allow us to introduce you to Robert Marchand, a 105-year-old Frenchman who just made biking history by riding 14.08 miles in just one hour. You read that right.
In 2012, Marchand set the furthest distance cycled by a 100-year-old when he covered 16 miles in one hour. While Robert may have failed to beat his personal best this time around, he still holds the new record for the furthest distance cycled in one hour by a 105-year-old.
Regardless of setting a new record, Marchand believes he could have done better. He told reporters:
“I did not see the sign warning me I had 10 minutes left. Otherwise, I would have gone faster, I would have posted a better time. I’m not tired. I thought my legs would hurt, but they don’t.”
So, if you thought keeping up with your New Year’s resolutions seemed hard, just remember a 105-year-old man just made cycling history by biking 14.08 miles in one hour.
