Well Relevanteers, June is almost over, the changes of spring have sprung and the summer heat is here. That means plenty of fireworks, hot dogs and the sad sight of disturbing farmer tans at pools and beaches all across America. Along with the change of seasons, the music section will be getting a few summer renovations over the next few weeks. To start off, I, Eric VanValin, have been given the privilege of taking over as the Music Section Editor. I am thrilled about the opportunity to keep all of the Relevant readers informed as to what’s going on in the music world from week to week.
Here’s what you can expect with the editor change in the upcoming weeks. The great weekly reviews and musical recommendations of the section will stay the same. We will make sure you know what to listen to this summer in-between the summer blockbuster sequels, World Cup games and the ever intriguing Simple Life marathons. Some new contributors will be brought on to compliment the great team of contributors we have already, and we’ll be adding new features and editorials each month including various lists, artist interviews, concert reviews and more.
There are some interesting releases coming out the next few months. Thom Yorke’s solo album, T.V. on the Radio’s sophomore LP and Outkast’s musical soundtrack are certainly ones to check out. For concertgoers, the summer festival has never been more popular. Five years ago you had to travel half-way across the country to get to the two good summer festivals in the U.S. (No, not Ozzfest and the Warped Tour). This year every weekend of the summer, in almost every state, has great festivals lined up. You have no excuses, get out there and enjoy the music.
We are currently looking for a few new contributors to the section. If you have some experience, send a resume to [email protected].
