Amazon MGM Studios Acquires ‘The Chosen,’ Teases More Faith-Based Content

Amazon MGM Studios just made a massive play in the faith-based entertainment space, locking down The Chosen in an exclusive U.S. streaming deal with Dallas Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios. That means Prime Video now holds the rights to the first five seasons and the upcoming final two plus theatrical distribution for The Chosen’s last chapters.

But this isn’t just about Jesus and the disciples—Amazon is also throwing its weight behind The Chosen in The Wild with Bear Grylls, because apparently, surviving Roman persecution wasn’t intense enough. The unscripted survival series will drag the cast (and Jenkins himself) into the wilderness, where Grylls will presumably make them eat bugs while reflecting on biblical themes.

The deal, announced via a YouTube livestream featuring Jenkins and Amazon execs, also includes a first-look agreement, meaning Prime Video could be cooking up even more faith-infused content. And let’s be real, Amazon’s not doing this out of pure spiritual devotion—faith-based entertainment is booming, and The Chosen has a diehard fanbase that makes Ted Lasso stans look casual.

This isn’t Amazon’s first holy alliance either. Last year, the studio linked up with The Wonder Project, the production company behind the upcoming House of David series, proving that Christian content is no longer a niche play—it’s a major streaming battleground.

Season 5 of The Chosen lands in theaters during Holy Week on March 28 before dropping on Prime Video in June. As for The Chosen in The Wild? No release date yet, but expect to see some familiar faces endure the elements—and maybe pick up a few wilderness survival tips straight from the Sermon on the Mount.
