Years after everyone stopped watching it, American Idol is going off the air. Fox has announced that the next season of the singing competition show will be its last. In its 15 seasons, the show has gone through dozens of judges (including Steven Tyler, Ellen Degeneres and Nicki Minaj); inspired similar shows (Dancing with the Stars, America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing); and helped kickstart the careers of some big stars (Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson). But ratings have fallen every year since 2006, so the network finally decided it was time to pull the plug. Fox also canceled The Mindy Project, The Following and Mulaney, among others …
