And Now ‘The Onion’ Has Been Hacked

The Syrian Electronic Army continues its reign of terror across the Twitterverse, today taking down one of America’s most cherished institutions: The Onion. Their Twitter account fell into enemy hands and promptly began spitting out borderline nonsensical attempts at some sort of political statement. As with the rest of the SEA’s attacks, it remains a mystery as to whether or not this is actually a Syrian institution, or a group of bored teenagers, but they’ve taken the reigns of the accounts of Reuters, the AP, the BBC and NPR, so they’re not to be trifled with. Of course, it took a few minutes for anyone to realize anything was amiss, given The Onion’s propensity for meta jokes. And there’s still the off-chance that this is some sort of Onion prank. But, in the meantime, our go-to source for political satire has been compromised. React accordingly …

Update: The Onion has changed their Twitter account password to “OnionMan77”
