Bill Cosby Sentenced to 3 to 10 Years In Prison In First Celebrity Trial of #MeToo Era

In an image that must have struck many as surreal and unprecedented just two years ago, Bill Cosby was moved to prison in handcuffs yesterday. The 81-year-old received 3 to 10 years in state prison for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his estate. (h/t Hollywood Reporter)

It has been an extraordinary fall from grace for Cosby. He declined the opportunity to speak before his sentencing. THR reports that after the sentencing he sat laughing and talking with his defense team.

In his sentencing, Judge Steven O’Neill of Montgomery County in Pennsylvania said: “It is time for justice. Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The time has come.” O’Neill also said Cosby had taken victim Andrea Constand’s “beautiful, young spirit and crushed it.”

Cosby must serve three years before becoming eligible for parole.

At a news conference, District Attorney Kevin Steele said: “Now, finally, Bill Cosby has been unmasked, and we have seen the real man as he is headed off to prison.” Constand stood next to Steele but gave no comment.
