On Wednesday, Penguin Random House announced that Rachel Held Evans had begun work on a children’s book that would answer the sort of questions kids have about God. Evans tragically passed in 2019, before she was able to finish the book, but her early drafts were carried to completion by her friend and fellow writer Matthew Paul Turner. Illustrations were added by UK-based artist Ying Hui Tan and now, What Is God Like? is available for pre-order. The announcement was made via a short Zoom chat with some of Evans’ friends like Jeff Chu, Sarah Bessey, Austin Channing Brown, Jen Hatmaker and Nadia Bolz-Weber. It is, as you might expect, awfully emotional.
"But whenever you aren't sure what God is like, think about what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel brave, and what makes you feel loved. That's what God is like."
