Next time you’re in a crisis, try calling Bowen Yang.
The SNL star just proved he might be the kindest man alive thanks to Elle Magazine’s “Phoning It In” series, where celebs prank-call their closest friends on camera. This week’s episode featured pop star Renée Rapp—whose second album Bite Me! drops today—but Yang completely stole the show.
In the bit, Rapp rang Yang for help as she freaked out, fake-crying and telling him her driver accidentally ran over SNL creator Lorne Michaels as he walked across the street. Instead of freaking out (or, you know, asking if his boss was still lying on Fifth Avenue), Yang calmly reassured her with world-class empathy: “Nothing bad is gonna happen” and “It’s all gonna be OK.”
After several minutes of Rapp keeping it together, she finally cracked and admitted it was a prank—Michaels, she assured him, was fine. Thankfully, Yang has no hard feelings about the prank.
“Oscar for that,” he said.
If this is what Yang is like under fake pressure, imagine what he’s like when the stakes are real.
