Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter last night that Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. Lando is one of the last characters from the original trilogy the new series has yet to catch up with. Finally, we’ll find out where the caped smuggler has been all these years.
Williams has been absent from Star Wars since Return of the Jedi in 1983. The Lando character appeared in this summer’s Solo, but was played by Donald Glover (who, if you ask us, was probably the coolest thing about that movie, even though Donald Glover is pretty much the coolest thing about anything he does).
Episode IX is directed by J.J. Abrams. It’s set to open December 20, 2019.
