Maverick City Music’s Chandler Moore just shared a side of his story fans haven’t heard before. In a vulnerable Instagram post, the worship leader revealed that he checked into rehab in November 2023 and has been in recovery ever since.
“It’s been almost two years, and today, for the first time since then, I went through some letters that I received from my family when I was there,” Moore wrote. “Some of them I hadn’t even opened until today because I was so ashamed of where I was.”
Moore described those 40 days in treatment as “the wilderness.”
“I met myself in the most painful, yet most beautiful way,” he said. “I met God in a way that stripped me down. I found people who didn’t flinch at my story. And God Himself walked into the pit with me and refused to leave until I could breathe again.”
The post was raw and emotional, but also full of gratitude. Moore credited his wife, Hannah, his family and close friends for standing by him through what he called his darkest moments.
“This month, I’ve been celebrating the love of God that restored me and still shows up every single day as I walk in recovery,” he wrote. “I see it in the way Hannah and my family stood beside me in my darkest moments. I see it in the way my friends held me up when I had nothing left to give.”
Moore is a founding member of Maverick City Music, the genre-bending worship collective that has won Grammys and helped reshape modern Christian music. Now, he says his next chapter of music will be born out of this season of “pain and revival, loss and sacrifice, love and authenticity.”
“The love of God is real,” Moore wrote at the end of his caption. “I’m still alive because of him. God, I’m just grateful for you.”
