Christian Bale: ‘Drones Would Be Sent Out After [Moses]’ Today

Christian Bale is continuing his provocative statements about Biblical hero Moses leading up to the release of Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings. In an interview with ABC’s Nightline (which hasn’t been released in full yet), the actor—who portrays Moses in the film—said:

[He was] absolutely seen as a freedom fighter for the Hebrews, but a terrorist in terms of the Egyptian empire … What would happen to Moses if he arrived today? Drones would be sent out after him, right?

Back in October, Bale made headlines for explaining how revelatory for him the preparation for the film was when it came to studying the person of Moses. He told reporters, “I think the man was likely schizophrenic and was one of the most barbaric individuals that I ever read about in my life. He’s a very troubled and tumultuous man and mercurial.” The statements drew some criticism, but others noted that Bale’s comments reflected Moses’ complex legacy as a Biblical hero, who found himself at odds with God and even murdered a man out of vengeance.
