A few people were nervous when Jon Stewart took a summer sabbatical, but it turned out they didn’t have to be. The shows trademark wit and humor didn’t miss a beat with John Oliver at the helm, bringing his very funny, distinctly British take on global news to the homes of Daily Show aficionados for a few months. Now, we’re going to have the opportunity to see a lot more of him, but it won’t be on The Daily Show. He’s headed to HBO for what’s being called a “topical comedy show,” which will likely be a talk show/variety series. In a statement, Oliver said that “I’m incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now. I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show for the best seven and a half years of my life. But most of all, I’d like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know.
