For the uninitiated, the world of Artemis Fowl is kind of hard to explain. So there’s this criminal mastermind boy genius, right? And he lives in a world where things like fairies and goblins and leprechauns all exist just out of sight of humans, right? And in the first book he kidnaps this fairy so he can hold her for ransom and restore wealth to his family, right? And his mom is sick and his dad is missing, right? There are eight of these books.
Now, there’s a movie, too. The movie looks very simple. It looks like if a kid was James Bond and James Bond had a bunch of sweet weapons and fairy-hunting equipment.
Fitting with the source material, the trailer looks pretty bizarre. Josh Gad and Judi Dench are the most-known actors here (strange for a Disney movie), but maybe that’s okay given the niche of the property. If this movie’s good, we could have a new franchise-leading star on our hands.
We’ll find out how Fowl fares when it hits theaters in August.
