Doctor: An Addiction to Taking Selfies May Cause Mental Illness

According to some medical professionals, taking too many selfies can lead to very serious mental problems and psychological issues. This story recounts how physician Dr. David Veal came to care for a man who became so enamored with the idea of taking the perfect selfie, that he eventually started snapping up to 200 a day. Dr. Veal said it was this obsession that may have led to the patient’s mental illness and development of “body dysmorphic disorder,” a body-image illness that he notes has “an extremely high suicide rate.” According to this story, other doctors say that taking too many selfies can also lead to serious psychological problems including “narcissism, depression [and] low self esteem.” From the article on Guardianlv.com:

Some experts and physicians feel that society is collectively engaged in deep denial about how dangerous it is to interact with screens without setting limits on how much time is spent doing so.
