If J.K. Rowling gets her wish, Eddie Redmayne will be the face of the new Harry Potter spin-off franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. According to The Independent, Redmayne is the Harry Potter author and Beasts screenwriter’s choice to play Newt Scamander in a new franchise—based on a fictional Hogwarts textbook—that is described as “neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.” Redmayne hasn’t committed to the franchise, but has become a major star in recent years with roles films including Les Miserables, Jupiter Ascending and The Theory of Everything for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.
