Facebook Is Bringing 360-Degree Videos to Your Newsfeed

Even if you’re not a fan of videos taking up your newsfeed, this new 360-degree feature from Facebook looks pretty cool. The social media platform debuted the interactive video this week, which is created with a special set of cameras that films all angles of a scene at once. The demo video, which is a clip from the upcoming Star Wars, shows how users can use their mouse pad or fingers to manually move the angle of the frame around the entire scene. The new feature is part of their collaboration with Oculus, a virtual reality company they recently purchased to incorporate into their platform. Video engineering director Maher Saba explained in a press release, “In the future, imagine watching 360 videos of a friend’s vacation to a small village in France or a festival in Brazil — you’ll be able to look around and experience it as if you were there.” Now, if they could just explain what the Poke is for.
