The First Trailer for HBO’s Michael Jackson Documentary Is Brutal, Brutal Stuff

For years, the allegations against Michael Jackson have been easy enough to ignore, but HBO is looking to shine a spotlight onto one of the most troubling and disturbing corners of pop culture.

Leaving Neverland will be a two-part documentary examining the parallel experiences of two boys who befriended Jackson, and the abuse they say resulted from that relationship.

The men are now grown and James Safechuck and Wade Robson opened up to a documentary crew about what they say happened, but whether or not the world is ready for a serious examination of the allegations against one of its most beloved figures remains to be seen.

A quick examination of the YouTube comments on the trailer would suggest that many people are unwilling to entertain such notions, despite the men’s devastating stories of abuse and cover-up  (representative comment: “Stop lying !!!!! I never watch anything from this channel again !!! SHAME, SHAME SHAME SHAME !!!”).

Part one of Leaving Neverland will premier on HBO March 3.
