Google Finally Catches a Break

Poor Google. The little search engine that could. Nobody knows how, but the website just manages to keep limping along in obscurity. It finally caught a break this week when the Federal Trade Commission, after investigating for two years, determined that the under-the-radar, hidden gem of a site “had not violated antitrust or anticompetition statutes in the way it arranges its Web search results.” Other companies (read: big bullies) were arguing that Google unfairly tilted its search results to its own nefarious ends. Nobody could blame a little upstart like Google for doing so, but they insisted they used a fair algorithm for all their search results. But their competitors continued to cry foul, so the FTC got involved and, two years later, determined Google can largely keep doing what it’s been doing, injecting new life into its fledgling organization …
