Grant Morrison’s Newest Comic Combines Jesus With Conan the Barbarian

Acclaimed comic writer Grant Morrison just unveiled his newest comic, and it’s sure to produce some controversy. It’s called Savage Sword of Jesus Christ, according to Vulture.

Morrrison melds together the attributes and personality of Conan the Barbarian onto Jesus Christ.

According to Vulture, the inspiration for this story was a Nazi theory called Positive Christianity, which reimagined Jesus as an Aryan rather than a Jewish man.

Morrison told Vulture:

The Nazis didn’t go as far as the barbarian Christ—that was my innovation. … Oddly enough, that exact same story is told in Conan the Barbarian, who was also depicted as having been crucified in a story. It just seemed too much of a gift, especially in light of Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal imagery, to combine this notion of Conan and Jesus Christ.

The first chapter of the comic will be released in Heavy Metal on Dec. 28—it promises to be controversial.
