Although Gen Z and millennials have a lot in common, we all know there are some key differences between the generations — and they make for great social media fodder.
First, there was the skinny jeans debacle, then the side part. And now, it’s how you make “big purchases.”
This all began with one innocent post on X from millennial @opheIiageorge, who said, “The millennial urge to make a big purchase on a laptop instead of a phone is very real.”

From there, things quickly spiraled. Millennials and Gen Z alike are now on day 3 of debating about whether or not it’s irrational to make a big purchase — think, $300 or more — on a laptop or a phone.
Jarrett just booked us international plane tickets on his phone and I almost had a heart attack. That is a laptop purchase, not a phone purchase.

Apparently, Gen Z is making fun of older generations for never buying big ticket purchases on their phone and always using a desktop. I’ve never felt more attacked in my life by something I didn’t realize I was subconsciously doing.

Definitely a big generational divide here. If it’s a big ticket purchase I usually have a couple tabs open, so desktop is better

I use my phone all the time to buy stuff

Unfortunately, Gen Z and millennials are forgetting the real enemy here: boomers who call their kids to make big purchases for them because they don’t know how to buy anything online.
