It’s Time to Play the Music: ‘The Muppet Show’ Is Headed to Disney Plus

It’s time to light the lights. All five seasons of Jim Henson’s beloved Muppet Show are getting an exclusive new home at Disney Plus, expanding the House of Mouse’s already formidable lineup and giving a new generation the opportunity to experience one of Henson’s best, weirdest creations. The Muppet Show often operated as a show within a show, both a Muppet-hosted variety series and a behind-the-scenes look at Kermit’s fraught attempts to keep the gang on task. It was where many of the most famous Muppets’ personalities were really honed into the various filters of zany chaos most people know today. At the time, Time Magazine called it “the only adult show on television” and “give or take Saturday Night Live, the funniest show on television.”

Plus, there’s an unending stream of guests stars like Steve Martin, Elton John, Julie Andrews, Kris Kristerofferson, Liza Minnelli and Alice Cooper(!). It’s one the best thing about the Muppets: watching big celebs adapt their talents to the eccentric world of rubber chickens, talking vegetables and waist-high costars. And it’ll all be yours on February 19.
