Jesus and Christianity Among 10 ‘Most Controversial’ Wikipedia Pages

Researchers from Oxford University recently conducted an interesting social study by looking at the number of crowd-sourced edits (and “reverts” back to original copy) on Wikipedia pages, to determine the 10 most “controversial” entries on the online encyclopedia. The study only represents the English-language version of the community-maintained database. Unsurprisingly, the rundown mostly comprised pages that deal with politics and religion. The Wikipedia entry for former President George W. Bush topped the list—though most of the edits were made during his 2004 re-election campaign. Entries for Muhammad, Jesus and Christianity also made the top 10, with editors using the medium to essentially debate religious opinions. Along with issues like global warming, circumcision and anarchism, researchers did uncover one major surprise: The page for “List of WWE personnel” is the fourth most controversial page on all of Wikipedia.
