Jodie Comer Is Reportedly Being Considered for the Lead Role in a ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Prequel

Five years ago, Mad Max: Fury Road cannonballed into theaters like a flaming guitar solo and set a whole new bar for what an action movie could be. The sequel to Mel Gibson’s diesel-fueled, post-apocalyptic franchise was a wake up call to Hollywood and absolutely broke the mold so hard that nobody else has really even tried to emulate it. Nobody that is, except George Miller himself, Mad Max‘s longtime director. He’s been hankering to film a prequel starring Furiosa, the battle-hardened heroine of Fury Road played by Charlize Theron. And now, it sounds like he may have found his young Furiosa.

Jodie Comer, who won an Emmy in 2019 for her outstanding work in Killing Eve, is apparently in contention for the role. If you haven’t caught up on the BBC’s tale, Comer plays a psychopathic assassin who grows obsessed with the agent tracking her down, so it’s definitely that kind of show. You may have also caught Comer briefly in The Rise of Skywalker (she played Rey’s mom in the flashbacks) and you’ll definitely see her opposite Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Ridley Scott’s upcoming The Last Duel.

Nothing is certain yet. The Hollywood Reporter says that Miller has also talked to The VVitch‘s Anya Taylor-Joy about the role, so it’s clear that he’s still hunting down the perfect lead, but he’s clearly interested in some exciting people and, hey, after Fury Road, sign us up for anything Miller does.
