Kanye West: ‘Being in Service to Christ … Radical Obedience’ Helped Him Through a Dark Season

Rapper, producer and designer Kanye West is currently on the cover of Forbes magazine. Thanks in large part to his Yeezy footwear line—which Forbes says is on pace to bring in $1.5 billion in sales in 2019 alone—West has become an extremely wealthy person.

But, things weren’t always going so well for West.

In 2016, his struggles became extremely public when he tweeted that he was $53 million in debt, and asked Mark Zuckerberg for $1 billion to help him fund all of his ideas. Shortly after he canceled his arena tour and ended up being hospitalized while dealing with temporary psychosis.

In the interview with Forbes, he says that he credits his turnaround to faith, specifically, “being in service to Christ, the radical obedience.” West explained, “I’m just blessed through the grace of God to go from tweeting at Mark Zuckerberg” to being where he is today.

He also spoke out about using negative labels on people who are having mental health struggles.

“‘Crazy’ is a word that’s not gonna be used loosely in the future,” West said. “Understand that this is actually a condition that people can end up in, be born into, driven into and go in and out. And there’s a lot of people that have been called that ‘C’ word that have ended up on this cover.”
