Katy Perry has spent her career asking audiences to feel like plastic bags drifting through the wind. At a recent concert, she discovered what happens when the plastic bag has no control over where it’s drifting.
During her headlining set at the Isle of MTV Malta festival, Perry climbed inside a giant inflatable water bottle labeled “Katyade” while performing “I Kissed a Girl.” Fans were supposed to roll her through the crowd and return her to the stage, where an enormous straw was waiting to complete the visual.
The crowd understood the first half.
Instead of pushing Perry toward the stage, fans carried the bottle farther into the audience as she pointed frantically in the opposite direction.
“Get me to that straw,” Perry yelled. “Go back to the stage!”
After a very, very long few moments, the crowd eventually figured it out and rolled Perry back in time to finish the song. She later admitted she had gone farther than expected and briefly worried she might not make it back.
And while we can’t confirm completely, we’re pretty sure this never would have happened to Christian rock icon Katy Hudson.
