Katy Perry: ‘My Brokenness + God’s Divinity = My Wholeness’

It’s no secret that Katy Perry was raised in a Christian home. Her parents are traveling ministers and she began trying to make it in music as an opennly Christian artist before turning to pop music. Since making it big, she’s confessed her upbringing sheltered her from a lot in the world, and she’s said she doesn’t identify with Christianity anymore.

This season, as a judge on American Idol, Perry has been adjacent to a lot of Christian ideas. One contestant, a worship leader who covered Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally,” moved her to tears through the spiritual nature of the cover. On the other end of the spectrum, Perry kissed a contestant of faith who claimed he was saving his first kiss for someone he was in love with.

In any case, Perry has been engaging with her Christian past in a very public way in recent weeks. Over the Easter holiday, she posted the following on IG:

Of course, it would be a bridge too far to project any significant meaning into one Instagram post, but it’s still nice to see a high-profile person like Perry conveying an honest message on social media.
