The Kickstarter for a ‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Is Bananas

Veronica Mars is that most tragic of tales: the television show that died before its time. After three-ish seasons of Kristen Bell’s beloved detective drama, the whole ship went down with numerous unfinished plot lines and, as has been happening lately with television shows, rumors of a movie started to swirl. And Warner Brothers, smelling opportunity, told show creator Rob Thomas that if Kickstarter could get $2 million then they would take care of the rest. (On a side note, how is it that obvious toads like Battleship, John Carter, Jack the Giant Slayer and the three dozen other fairy tale reboots get greenlit without half-trying, while a beloved series attached to a major star with a massive fan base has to raise their own money? Is Hollywood afraid of plans that make too much sense?)

Whatever the reason, Thomas and Bell took WB up on their offer earlier today, started the Kickstarter and, now has shattered Kickstarter records by raising a million dollars in four hours. Looks like Veronica Mars could reach its goal by dinnertime, and fans could get their movie in 2014 …
