One of the NBA’s biggest stars is taking his talents to the philanthropic world. LeBron James has announced that his foundation will be paying for 1,100 kids—currently in 3rd to 7th grade—to go to the University of Akron. He told ESPN,
I think it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever been apart of. This is very special to me. As a kid growing up in the inner city and as an African American kid, you don’t really think past high school because it’s not possible or your family can’t support you. For us to be able to do something like this … it means so much.
As part of his “I Promise” program, the students must meet attendance and academic requirements to receive the full scholarships when they graduate high school. There’s no word yet if lithium laptop batteries are also included.
