Showtime announced Monday a new three-part documentary series Shut Up and Dribble from executive producer LeBron James. Shut Up and Dribble will premiere in October. It’s about the changing role of NBA athletes in the current political and social climate.
The title of the series notably comes from a quote from Fox News host Laura Ingraham made to James in February. After James talked politics in an interview, Ingraham asked James on her show to “shut up and dribble.” Looks like LeBron is gaining the upper hand in that spat, or at least the go-ahead bucket.
James has been at the center of political conversation for the past week. After alluding to some disagreements he had with the president in an interview with CNN anchor Don Lemon, President Trump tweeted an attack on James, saying it was hard to make him look smart on TV. James had been highly critical of Trump in the past, calling the president a “bum” in 2017.
This is the first time Trump has directly attacked a pro athlete by name. It comes the week James opened a school for underprivileged children in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. (h/t Washington Post)
