Next month, Kristian Mattson is putting out the first Tallest Man On Earth album since 2015’s Dark Bird Is Home. The album, I Love You. It’s a Fever Dream., is coming out April 19, but it already has a couple lead singles, including “I’m a Stranger Now.” (h/t Pitchfork)
The song blends rapid guitars with the soulful, thoughtful lyrics you hope for in strong, singular singer-songwriter tracks. Mattson’s voice brings the hardened words some pleasant softness, too.
The vibe fits just about any springtime playlist, but the words can also meet you in a lonely place, if that’s where you are.
On making the album, Mattson, who didn’t just write the songs, but engineered the record and produced it himself as well, said: “I was thinking a lot about the lenses we view our lives through. For some reason, our worst tendencies seem to be carried out so loudly, while our best can go unnoticed. I’ve come to realize that some of the most powerful, most inspiring moments in my life have been the most subtle and that so often the thing that deserves my attention, is trying the least to get it.”
