
Matthew McConaughey is definitely living the dream right now, and every now and then, he dispenses some of his crazy wisdom for those of us looking to attain to his status. Some pieces of that advice are better than others, but his advice on marriage—as relayed to GQ this month—is actually pretty spot-on.
We talked about it spiritually. We did a lot of reading and talked to a lot of people that had been divorced, a lot of people that had been happily married. We talked to our pastor. In the end, our understanding was, ‘Let’s go make a covenant, with you, me and God …I had to get to the point where I saw [getting married] as more than just the thing to do. I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn’t want it to be just a destination; the fun is that we’re on the adventure together.
McConaughey finally married his longtime girlfriend Camila Alves, with whom he now has three children, in 2012. They had a Catholic ceremony in the little Texas (of course) town where they live …
