Hip-hop star GloRilla released her debut album Glorious today, which featured songs with artists like Megan thee Stallion, Latto, Sexyy Red… and Maverick City Music.
Halfway through the album, GloRilla, who recently opened up about her history with Christianity, takes a beat to rap alongside the worship group and Kirk Franklin about the blessings she’s received from God in her life.
“I know I’m a sinner, Lord, and I know I might sin again,” she raps on “Rain On Me.” “So thank You for not givin’ up and still givin’ me the strength to win.”
The song has received mixed reviews online from Maverick City’s fans. Many were confused by the collaboration, wondering why the worship collective would partner with a secular artist.

@thereagangrace I don’t say any of this to diss Maverick city, Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore, or even any of the other artists mentioned in this video, including Glorilla. You can’t get mad at secular artists for making secular music when that is what they have always done. Others weren’t as taken aback, arguing that a lot of good could come from this unexpected collaboration.

This isn’t the first time Maverick City has received backlash for collaborating with a secular artist. Back in July, fans also weren’t happy with the worship collective sang with Will Smith at the BET Awards.
Of course, the reaction to these collabs might be different if the songs were actually good.
