Meet the Lakers Player Who’s Regularly Hosting Bible Studies On Instagram

Trey Jemison III isn’t waiting for post-game interviews to talk about his faith—he’s leading Bible studies on Instagram instead. The Los Angeles Lakers two-way player has been using his platform to host live devotionals for thousands of followers.

In a recent interview on Certified G’s on Tubi, Jemison opened up about why he prioritizes Bible studies on his Instagram.

“There’s no way I should be in the NBA,” he said. “There’s no way I should be 6’10. There’s no way I should be with the Lakers right now. When God opens doors for me, I have to remember who brought me here. So my platform is used to impact people’s lives.”

And he’s not just throwing out inspirational quotes—he’s engaging in full-blown Scripture study, encouraging fans to read along, ask questions and deepen their faith.

His commitment to Christ didn’t come out of nowhere. Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Jemison grew up immersed in church culture. He attended Hoover High School, then played for Clemson before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he set a single-season program record with 329 total rebounds. But after going undrafted in 2023, his path to the NBA was anything but certain.

“I was gonna quit basketball and give it up,” he said. Instead, he turned to prayer. His faith led him back to the game, and after bouncing between teams, he landed with the Lakers on a two-way contract.

Now, Jemison is playing on one of the most storied franchises in NBA history while still making time to preach the Word. And while the Lakers’ championship aspirations may dominate headlines, Jemison is focused on something bigger.

“Basketball is temporary, but God’s Word lasts forever,” he recently posted. With a career that’s just beginning, it’s clear Jemison’s impact is already going far beyond the court.
