Miley Cyrus Just Gave a Powerful Reason Why She Got Sober

Miley Cyrus is showing up differently these days — and she says that’s exactly the point.

In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the pop star opened up about the impact sobriety has had on her life, calling it one of the most empowering decisions she’s made.

“I like showing up 100 percent, 100 percent of the time,” she said. “I love that if anything comes in — an opportunity — I can say yes, knowing that I’m going to be ready. I don’t have to get ready.”

Cyrus explained that in the past, drinking or using substances made it harder to stay consistent with her demanding career.

“The hardest part about balancing any sort of substance use or drinking when you want to do what I do,” she said, “is you’re going, ‘OK, well now I have to get sober for this thing, because I want to show up my best.’”

Now, she said, that preparation isn’t necessary.

“That’s my favorite part about sobriety — being 100 percent, 100 percent of the time.”

It’s a fitting mantra for an artist whose evolution has always been public — from Hannah Montana fame to boundary-pushing pop star to reflective, self-assured performer. At 31, Cyrus seems to have found what so many in her position search for: clarity, peace and a sense of readiness for whatever comes next.
