Mitch Hurwitz :‘Arrested Development’ Movie Next for the Bluths

At the New York TV Festival, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz apologized for season four’s execution, explained his creative process and hinted at what’s next for the Bluths. In referencing season four, which received mixed reactions when the series returned on Netflix after a multi-year hiatus, Hurwitz admitted he made a huge mistake (kind of). “I felt in many ways, I did not prepare the audience for this. Right before the show came out, I thought, I’ve really not said what this is, and what it had become was a novel … that first episode became much more like chapter one of a novel than episode one of a series. And I didn’t prep you guys—I’m really sorry about that.” Hurwitz said that though the “storytelling changed” in the last season of the show—and that it potentially isolated part of the fan-base—he still wants to finish the story. And this time, he wants to make a feature-length film. “What my new thing is, because it might be tough to get the cast together for the four months you would need to make a series, is to try to get them together for four weeks sooner, and do the movie that is the story that we’ve been building up to in this show. And then, bring the series back after that” …
