Let’s be honest: we live in the era of Too Much Content. Your streaming queue is a graveyard of half-watched prestige dramas and shows your friend swore you’d love (you didn’t). So if you’re overwhelmed by the neverending scroll and need a shortcut to the good stuff, we’ve got you.
Here are three new releases (and one reboot) that are actually worth pressing play on this week.
King of the Hill (2025 Reboot)
That’s right: the Hills are back, and they haven’t lost a step. The beloved animated series has returned in reboot form with Mike Judge and Greg Daniels at the helm, and somehow it manages to be both comfortingly familiar and sharply updated. Now set in a post-smartphone Arlen, Texas, the show cleverly reflects the modern world without losing the slow-burn charm that made it a cult favorite. Yes, Bobby is grown. Yes, there are jokes about influencers. And yes—Hank Hill still loves propane.

Sketch
Tony Hale stars as Taylor Wyatt, a widowed father doing his best to help his two kids process the unimaginable—until the unimaginable gets even stranger. In Sketch, his daughter’s grief drawings accidentally fall into a magical pool (yes, really), unleashing actual crayon monsters on their quiet neighborhood. Equal parts heartfelt and chaotic, the film explores loss and healing through an unexpectedly creative lens—literally. Chalk dust, wax creatures and emotional catharsis all collide in a movie that’s bizarre in all the right ways.
Playing now in theaters.
Chief of War (Season 1)
This Apple TV+ original is quickly becoming the show everyone’s talking about—and for good reason. Created by and starring Jason Momoa, Chief of War tells the gripping story of the unification of the Hawaiian Islands in the late 1700s. It’s brutal, beautiful and deeply rooted in indigenous storytelling. The series doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of colonialism and war, but it also highlights cultural pride, family legacy and the fight for sovereignty. With sweeping cinematography and a stacked cast, this is the kind of historical epic that actually sticks with you.

The Phoenician Scheme
Wes Anderson’s latest film might be his most Wes Anderson-y yet—and yes, that’s a compliment. The Phoenician Scheme is a stylized spy caper full of impossibly symmetrical shots, ironic double-crosses, and a cast that includes basically every actor who’s ever been nominated for an Oscar. It’s quirky. It’s dry. It’s weirdly moving. And yes, there’s an extended monologue delivered directly to camera while an elaborately designed model ship burns in the background. If you’re the kind of person who once described a movie as “visually poetic,” this one’s for you. If you missed it in theaters earlier this year, here’s your chance to watch one of the best films of the year.
Now streaming on Peacock.
