If you had concerns over Disney’s reboot of Mary Poppins, put them to rest. The 1964 Julie Andrews version will persist forever, but the coming revival starring Emily Blunt dropped its first trailer during the Oscar ceremony last night, and it’s a wonder.
The trailer tells a tight little vignette, following a kite as it’s blustered past all the new cast members, from kid to kid to Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack (no look yet of Meryl Streep or Colin Firth). The kite’s caught up in a windstorm before being lost in a storm cloud and giving away visually to a … wait, is that … a woman holding an umbrella?
This movie looks like it’s going to be really fun and really different from the 1964 version. We’ll know for sure when Mary Poppins Returns finally lands around Christmas.
