Robert Downey Jr. recently revealed he passed on a major role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, choosing instead to return to Marvel as Doctor Doom. Downey Jr.’s surprising decision has spotlighted Nolan’s next ambitious project, reminding everyone just how stacked the cast already is.
Leading the ensemble is Matt Damon, stepping into the legendary role of Odysseus. This will mark Damon’s third collaboration with Nolan, following their acclaimed work together on Interstellar and Oppenheimer. Alongside Damon, Nolan has assembled a formidable cast featuring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway and Lupita Nyong’o.
Production officially kicked off last month, transforming Morocco’s stunning Aït Benhaddou into the ancient landscapes of Greece, promising Nolan’s signature epic scale and visual brilliance.
The Odyssey is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2026, already primed to be one of Nolan’s most ambitious blockbusters yet.
