Frank Ocean Is In Talks to Make His Directorial Debut With A24

You’ve released two generation defining albums — both of which were included on Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Albums of All Time — won two Grammys and been named as one of TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world. What do you do next? Well, if you’re Frank Ocean, you turn your attention to filmmaking.

Discussing Film reports that Frank Ocean is in talks to write and direct his first feature film. What’s more, red-hot studio A24 is in talks to distribute, which would suggest someone in the know has a lot of confidence in Ocean’s talents.

Ocean has a history with A24, having written the forward to the published screenplay for Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight and contributing to the Waves soundtrack. It’s easy to see Ocean’s interest in film, given the cinematic scope of CHANNEL Orange and Blond— he released a 2016 “visual album” called Endless with Apple — so we’ll see how his musical talents carry over to moviemaking. No details are current available about the movie itself, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it.
