Mel Gibson’s ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’ Will Release in Two Parts

Mel Gibson’s long-promised sequel to The Passion of the Christ finally has a release date—or two, actually.

The project, titled The Resurrection of the Christ, will be split into two films. Part one lands in theaters on Good Friday, March 26, 2027. Part two wraps things up on Ascension Day, May 6, 2027.

Jim Caviezel is back in the role of Jesus—digitally de-aged, of course, since it’s been nearly 25 years since he played the 33-year-old Messiah. According to early reports, the films will pick up where The Passion left off, covering Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances, the fallout in Rome, and possibly some cosmic spiritual warfare.

Gibson has called the script “a masterpiece” and promised it’ll be “the biggest film in history.” We’ll see about that.
