Nate Bargatze’s First Film, ‘The Breadwinner,’ Will Premiere Next Year

Nate Bargatze is headed to the big screen.

His feature film debut, The Breadwinner — which he’s starring in, co-wrote and is producing — is set to hit theaters March 16, 2026. Not bad for a guy who once joked he barely knows how email works.

For years, Bargatze has stayed laser-focused on stand-up, skipping Hollywood offers in favor of life on the road (which paid off—he was the world’s top-grossing comic in 2023 and 2024). But now he’s making the leap, teaming up with Weird: The Al Yankovic Story director Eric Appel for a comedy he describes as “in the vein of Mr. Mom and Home Alone.

Plot details are under wraps, but Bargatze told RELEVANT he’s pumped to learn the ropes of filmmaking.

“It’s going to be hard to make something and then have to wait to see it,” he says. “I’m used to immediate reactions. Plus, I don’t know the first thing about making a movie. I’m excited to figure it all out—what works, what’s funny, what needs tweaking. It’s going to be a whole new world, and I can’t wait to learn.”
