One of the first Avengers is getting a sendoff for the ages this May when Black Widow hits theaters, reuniting the world-class spy with her Russian family, played by Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz. They’re going to have to team up to take down the villainous Taskmaster, who runs a vicious assassin indoctrination center called the Red Room. Also, looks like there’s some crazy fights, including more than a few nods to the James Bond franchise.
In the comics, the Taskmaster has “photographic reflexes”, allowing him to instantly mimic the fighting styles of his opponents. It looks like this movie has found a cinematic twist for that skill, giving him various Avenger-y gimmicks (you can see Black Panther’s claws, Hawkeye’s bow and arrow — in addition to the Captain America-like shield) for Mr. and Mrs. Black Widow and their daughters to contend with.
There was some speculation about whether or not COVID-19 concerns would disrupt this summer’s major motion picture plans, with the latest James Bond movie already scuttling its release date back to November. This trailer still advertises May 1 as the release date, so Disney is apparently confident that the global ship will be righted by then. A bold strategy — we’ll see if it pays off.
