The First Trailer for ‘Men’ Promises Another Spooky Trip Down A24’s Prestige Horror Rabbit Hole

A24 has carved out a nice niche for itself as a purveyor of thoughtful, daring movies with an emphasis on “prestige horror” or “elevated horror” or what have you — scary movies with a lot on their mind. Alex Garland is similarly interested, having directed the excellent Ex Machina and Annihilation, along with 2020’s limited series Devs, which starred Nick Offerman. Now, he’s back with Men, starring freshly minted Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley.

The story follows a …well, it’s not totally clear what’s going on. Buckley is playing Harper, a widow trying to process the sudden, inexplicable death of her husband. Unfortunately, she seems to have chosen a vacation home populated entirely by unnerving men. Well, what can you do? Unnerving men are everywhere. But alas, someone — or something, ooooh — seems to be stalking her, but that mysterious assailant isn’t as spooky as the fact that all the men in this town seem to be the same guy (or at least played by the same actor at least: No Time to Die‘s Rory Kinnear).

Garland’s already onto his next project, a futuristic sci-fi joint starring Kirsten Dunst and, at this point, he’s earned our trust.
