Netflix has the first trailer for a new feature from Charlie Kaufman, the filmmaker behind trippy classics like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malcovich and Synecdoche. This one is called i’m thinking of ending things and looks like a similarly bonkers premise, though its exact nature isn’t clear. The movie stars Jessie Buckley (Chernobyl) on a trip to meet the unnerving parents of her boyfriend (Jesse Plemmons). Something weird seems to be going down at the house, as Toni Collette and David Thewlis don’t seem totally normal, and the plot description promises that the events there cause our young lead to “question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world.” That’s a Kaufman movie for you. Here’s the trailer.
Well, whatever’s going on here, we’ll know more come September 4, when the movie releases.
