Hollywood’s eternal love affair with Bible adaptations continues, and this year’s lineup is surprisingly stacked. From prestige streaming series to indie mockumentaries, this year’s offerings run the full spectrum of faith-based storytelling. Some projects have us hyped, others have us cautiously optimistic, but all of them are worth keeping on your radar.
Here’s what’s coming, when it’s dropping, and—most importantly—how many camels we’re awarding each title on our totally scientific RELEVANT Excitement Scale (1 to 5 camels).
House of David
Release Date: February 27, 2025
Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video
Excitement Level: 🐪🐪🐪🐪
Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution, I Can Only Imagine) knows how to make faith-based films that don’t feel cheap. But can he pull off a sweeping biblical epic? House of David is his first attempt at a Bible-based series, and Amazon Prime is throwing some serious weight behind it. We’re intrigued, but cautiously so—big streaming adaptations of biblical stories can go either way. If it’s great, this could be the next Game of Thrones (but, you know, Old Testament style). If it flops, well…at least we tried.
The Chosen – Season 5
Release Date: March 27, 2025 (Theatrical Release)
Where to Watch: Theaters initially; streaming platforms later in 2025
Excitement Level: 🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪
We’re in the serious part of Jesus’ ministry now. Season 5 is leading up to the crucifixion, and the teaser trailer promises this will be the most cinematic season yet. With bigger budgets, sharper storytelling, and an audience that’s only growing, The Chosen is about to enter its most dramatic and theologically dense stretch. If they stick the landing, it could be the definitive on-screen portrayal of Jesus’ final days.
The Last Supper
Release Date: March 14, 2025
Where to Watch: Theaters
Excitement Level: 🐪🐪🐪
Not much is known about this one yet, but it appears to be a more intimate, character-driven take on the night before the crucifixion. Could be powerful, could be forgettable—we just don’t have enough details to say. If done right, this could be an emotional gut-punch that adds depth to a moment every Christian is familiar with. If done wrong, well…we’ll just move along and pretend it never happened.
The King of Kings
Release Date: April 11, 2025
Where to Watch: Theaters
Excitement Level: 🐪🐪🐪🐪
Oscar Isaac as the voice of Jesus? Yes, please. This animated film takes a stylized, family-friendly approach to the Gospels, which isn’t exactly our dream format, but if it gets more people engaged with Scripture, we’re not mad about it. The animation looks solid, the cast is stacked, and while we’d rather see Isaac in a live-action biblical role (just imagine him as David!), we’ll take what we can get.
The Promised Land
Release Date: Probably mid-year
Where to Watch: YouTube (Pilot available now); full series release details pending
Excitement Level: 🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪
If you haven’t seen the pilot episode on YouTube yet, stop reading and go fix that. This mockumentary series follows the Israelites wandering the desert, but in the style of The Office and Parks and Rec. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds. The writing is sharp, the humor lands, and it’s honestly the fresh take biblical storytelling has been missing. Whether it can sustain the bit for an entire series remains to be seen, but we’re very here for it.
