Pixar is gearing up for Turning Red, a delightful-looking tale from Domee Shi about a girl named Mei and her unusual coming of age. She and all her friends are entering into adolescence and all its various terrors, but Mei’s particular struggle is pretty unique but, then again, at least a little relatable to anyone who felt like puberty turned them into a monster. The movie looks very fun and features lots of Pixar’s usual knack for character design and world-building, but this trailer (like its teaser) also features a knockout needle drop about a minute in that feels simultaneously out of nowhere and completely appropriate.
Speaking of teen bands, Turning Red features a fictional boy band called 4 Town, with pop songs written by real-life teen star Billie Eilish and her producer brother FINNEAS, so there are plenty of reasons to check this one out next March.
