The Trailer for ‘The Family’ Documentary Promises an Ominous Look at the National Prayer Breakfast

The National Prayer Breakfast. Just a chance for a few faith leaders to get together and shake some hands, right? Well, according to an upcoming Netflix documentary, there’s a bit more to it than that. Sure, lots of people who show up are just looking to eat breakfast, enjoy a little conversation and maybe meet the President. But in recent years, the National Prayer Breakfast has also made headlines as a place for spiritual power brokers to make inroads with foreign leaders and oligarchs, sometimes to unseemly ends. Russian spy Maria Butina was arrested after making inroads through back channels she accessed at the National Prayer Breakfast.

An amorphous Christian collective known as “The Family”, led by the late Doug Coe, is behind the Breakfast, and is the subject of the documentary, which will explore the “sophisticated, successful tactics its affiliates use to influence policy-making around the globe.”

Sounds a little too wild to be true, but the documentary was made “with unprecedented participation from members of the organization.”

You can watch it and determine its legitimacy for yourself on August 9.
