The Trailer for the ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special’ Is Here to Get You Into the Christmas Spirit

OK, well, the last time we visited the ongoing drama in the Skywalker family, we got The Rise of Skywalker which was, to be honest, a bit of a letdown. But Star Wars content is looking up with a fresh new season of The Mandalorian and now, this trailer for what looks like a holiday hoot: a LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special headed to Disney Plus.

Time travel shenanigans are afoot as LEGO Rey goes on a holiday bonanza across the history of the Star Wars galaxy, dropping her into various iconic moments that you’re probably more familiar with than she is. Based on the the trailer, the whole thing looks to have the LEGO team’s usual dash of self aware humor, thoroughly enjoying their very strange way to mess around with copyright law and play in one of the world’s most famous intellectual property sandboxes.

For those not in the know, Christmas does not appear to be a holiday in the Star Wars universe (presumably, they have found other ways to celebrate the birth of Jesus) but an infamously awful 1978 TV special revealed that Chewbacca and his wookie pals do celebrate “Life Day,” which looks and sounds a lot like Christmas. The special is hilariously dumb and has become a running gag among Star Wars fans but it did feature the first ever appearance of Boba Fett, which led to The Mandalorian so it all comes full circle. Too long, didn’t read: Christmastime is almost here and both LEGO and Star Wars are ready for it. The special will drop on Disney Plus on November 17.
